Les Gras d'Huiles (base 18)
The first three feet of soil in this vineyard consist of Argiles d'lignite, a dark clayy sandstone that will get a sticky, oily structure after heavy rain. The name, 'oil fat', refers to that soil. The Oudiette family started planting chardonnay here in 1993.
In this one hectare vineyard cover crops are encouraged to grow between the vines, and the soil is enriched with preparations made of nettle and comfrey. Herbicides nor pesticides are used.
Wine from base year 2018 was vinified in small barrels and, blended with three previous vintage years, aged for two years in cellar. A great blanc de blancs: dry and complex.
