With Collection, classic champagne domain Louis Roederer introduces a new signature champagne. For a long time, Brut Premier was its basic blend; from now on, Collection is the champagne with which Roederer joins continuity to modernity.
While in the vineyards Roederer focuses more and more on organic and biodynamic practices, and is forced to deal with riper fruit that is picked earlier, in cellar the art of blending is taken to a higher level.
In 2012 Roederer started a perpetual reserve, in which older and younger wines are blended. This reserve wine, plus reserve wine aged in oak, is added to wine from the latest harvest. The result is a young champagne which offers both easygoing freshness and complexity.
Collection 242, a reference to the 242nd blend the maison has produced since it was founded in 1776, consists of 56% wine from vintage 2017. Added to that is 34% reserve wine from the perpetual reserve and 10% reserve wine aged in large oak barrels.
