Vintage 2009 Sir Winston Churchill
The British statesman and prime minister Winston Churchill (1874-1965) was a great fan of the Pol Roger champagnes, and his relationship with the domain was strong. In 1984 Pol Roger introduced its first prestige cuvee with his name.
Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill is made of grapes from grand cru villages, and it is produced in excellent vintage years only. The champagne is always allowed some ten years of aging in cellar, longer than the other vintage champagnes in the Pol Roger collection.
This is the style Churchill enjoyed so much: an aged champagne with pinot noir very present. Citrus and blossom on the nose, a refined, full flavour with brioche, ripe fruit, toasted nuts. Champagne with power and elegance, depth and length.
2009 was a very good year: this champagne is great to drink now, but could age a bit longer.
