Coteaux champenois Hommage à Camille 2018 rouge
Between 1932 and 1975, widow Camille Olry-Roederer not only controlled the production of champagne, she also insisted on still wine being made. Though for personal use: she liked to surprise her dinner guests with it.
Her great grandson and current ceo of the historical family domain, Frédéric Rouzaud, has fond memories of that tradition. To honor this special lady, he decided, in close collaboration with cellar master Jean Baptiste Lécaillon, to launch two still wines for a wider audience.
This red coteaux champenois is made of pinot noir grapes from the vineyard Charmont in Mareuil sur Ay. The grapes, partly in whole bunch, received 17 days of skin maceration; after fermentation the wine aged for 14 months on its lees in French oak: 40% in new barrels, the other part in once or twice used barrels.
The production is very limited: only 1631 bottles were made.
Hommage a Camille rouge is a lively, elegant still red wine with great freshness.
