Comtes de Champagne 2008
In 1952 Taittinger launched its top cuvee Comtes de Champagne, produced only in very good vintage years. Made of chardonnay from grand cru villages in Côtes de Blancs, like Avize, Cramant and Mesnil-sur-Oger, this champagne is a celebration in itself.
A small part, 5% of the wine, is aged in oak. After second fermentation the champagne is allowed about ten years of aging in the Taittinger quarries beneath Reims. Comtes de Champagne is a rich, elegant champagne with wonderfully ripe flavours: blossom on the nose, ripe white fruit and a hint of toast. A celebratory, stylish glass.
Growing season 2008 started off chilly, but a sunny not too hot summer offered grapes wonderful ripening changes. Relatively cool 2008 is considered one of the best vintage years in the new millennium.
Already a wonderful drink, allow this champagne some further aging if you like even more depth and complexity.
