Easy drinking and fruity champagne. Pinot noir is supplemented with not only chardonnay but also a little pinot blanc, a grape that is rarely seen in Champagne.

A century ago, producers in the Aube department were not allowed to put 'champagne' on their labels. This southern part of the region, more than a hundred kilometers below Épernay, is therefore a geographical corner of Champagne. Yet the large houses around Reims did buy their grapes from this region: pinot noir is doing great here.

After struggle and considerable lobbying, it was decided that Côte des Bar, in Aube, is part of the AOP Champagne. Here you will not find grand cru or premier cru municipalities, but stubborn champagne makers with their own style who make great, often personal champagnes.

Thibaud Brocard is such a person. Since 2009, he has been working the vineyards around Celles-sur-Ource, where the family has been growing grapes since 1932. He took over the company from his father Pierre, who is still very actively involved. Thibaud's first step: remove all pesticides from the field. In practice, Brocard works organically and adds as little sulfite as possible.
