Early in the twentieth century Alfred Bonville bought several plots close to Avize, where in 1937 he was able to buy a champagne production house as well. It included a well-functioning wine press and a cellar. After World War II his son Franck took over the family domain. For him the introduction of the tractor was a big technical step, while his son Gilles invested in the use of stainless steel in cellar after he had taken over the Bonville domain in the seventies.

Today the fourth generation heads the Bonville business: Olivier Bonville joined in 1996 and has focused on a transition towards sustainability since. Nowadays Olivier is the one producing refined chardonnay champagnes made of grapes from grand cru villages Avize, Oger and le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
